B-Day Gift: A Heartwarming Celebration

The guild was busy as the mages of Fairy Tail were decorating the main hall for a party--more specifically Melody's 21st birthday, and the mastermind behind this? Sora.

"Hey Elfman, how's it going up there?" Sora called out to fellow guild member.

"Everything's good up here! Lisanna and I are just about done with the second floor!" He replied, leaning over the railing.

"That's good to hear!"

"We're back!" Cana announced as she and Gajeel entered the guild--holding about four barrels each.

"Gah! Cana-san! What's the deal with those?!" Sora exclaimed with shock.

"They've got beer in them of course! Seeing as how our newest member is coming of the right age, we should celebrate the right way!" Cana proudly spoke as she set the barrels down at the bar.

"I think you just want to see her get drunk." Sora sighed.

"That's exactly what I said." Gajeel chuckled. "So how much longer do we need to finish with everything?"

"Well, I had Lucy and Juvia-chan take Melody into town long enough for us to finish here. I asked Natsu to go and escort her when we're done." Sora explained.

"And you have Erza-chan making the cake correct?" Mirajane asked, cleaning the glasses at the bar.

"Well yes Lady Erza does make the best cakes in the guild, so I asked her to make the greatest one of all! Oh man, I'm getting so excited! I"ll be right back everyone, I just need to get something from home!" Sora said as he hurried out the guild's doors.

"Gotta say, the guy's really looking forward to this." Gajeel spoke as he was organizing the tables.

"He does care for her. Considering the fact we saved her from that freaky circus. I still get chills thinking about it." Gray told him, remembering the mission that introduced them to Melody.

"The important thing is you got her out of that situation and Melody-chan will able to use her magic to help people." Mirajane informed him.

Sora returned to the guild, holding quite a handful of presents. "I'm back!"

Jake and Amy, Sora's siblings, followed behind him carrying presents as well. "Hi everyone!"

"Hi!" The guild replied.

"Those Mel's presents?" Gray asked.

"Yep, had to hide them at home to make sure Nastu doesn't try to sneak a peek." Sora replied as he glared at Natsu.

"Oh come on you're still sore about that?" Natsu said.

"Well it was my birthday." Sora huffed.

"I'm sorry dude! I can't help being curious!"

"You know what they say, 'Curiosity killed the cat'." Gray told him.

"Huh?!" Happy exclaimed.

"Relax pal, it's just an old saying." Natsu reassured him.

The guild's leader, Makarov, approached the group with his grandson and guild member, Laxus. "Sora, it looks like everything is finished. The guild has completely been decorated!"

"Really? How's the outside look?"

"Done. I've got a feeling Melody's gonna like it." Laxus smiled.

Sora then turned to the Fire Dragon Slayer. "Awesome. Natsu, you're up!" 

"Huh? Up for what?"

"You're suppose to escort Melody back here you nimrod." Gray spoke.

"Oh yeah! Come on Happy, let's go get the birthday girl!" Natsu said as he hopped up from his chair ran out of the guild.

Meanwhile in Magnolia Town, the girls had finished their shopping and were waiting at the park as part of the plan.

"How much longer do we have to wait here?" Melody asked, laying on the bench and looking up at the sky.

"Not too much longer Mel-chan." Lucy told her. Natsu, you better get here quick!

Something then caught Juvia's eye as she turned to see a figure in the distance rushing towards them.

"Lucy, Mel-chan, Juvia sees someone coming!" She informed to the two, pointing East.

Melody got up from the bench and stood next to Juvia. "Yeah I can. I think that's....Natsu?"

The figure got closer and was revealed to indeed be Natsu. He was panting heavily and as he got closer to the three, he started to slow down.

"I'm...here...to...escort...you...back...Melody...." Natsu panted before he collapsed to the ground.

"Did you just seriously ran here all the way from the guild?!" Lucy exclaimed.

"That's not surprising considering how Natsu is." Melody giggled.

Natsu quickly hopped back on his feet and bowed to Melody. "So then milady, shall we?"

"Yes, and you can carry our bags." Lucy said she tossed the bags into Natsu's hands, while he tried to keep his balance and trying to see though the large stack of bags.

"I thought I was supposed to escort her, not be some butler!" Natsu yelled.

"Have fun Natsu!" Happy laughed as he flew away towards the guild.

"Happy get back here and help with these!"

Sometime afterward, the four finally arrived back at the guild.

"Oh wow look at the decorations! It's so pretty!" Melody eyed with awe.

"That's just the icing on the cake!" Lucy giggled as she and Juvia opened the guild doors, where they were welcomed with complete darkness.

Melody peeked her head inside. "Helloooo? Anybody here?"

The lights flashed on.

"HAPPY BIRTHDAY MEL-CHAN!" The guild shouted as they jumped out of their hiding spots.

"Is this all for me?!" Melody asked, eyes sparkling with joy.

"Mmhmm. Sora-kun was in charge of putting everything together." Mirajane explained.

"R-Really?"

She turned to see Sora approach her. He took Melody's hand and kissed it.

"This is all for you Mel-chan." Sora spoke.

Tears of joy began to roll down Melody's cheeks. This was the first time she felt happy in a long time.

"Oh Sora, I love this! Thank you so much!"

She leaped towards him and gave Sora a big hug.

Sora hugged her back. "I'm glad."

The festivities continued as the entire guild began to party like they never had before as Melody opened her presents, and was overjoyed. The party began to wind down as it was time to eat, especially when it came to the grand finale: The cake!

"Alright I'm so fired up for the cake!" Natsu happily exclaimed. "Hey, where's Erza anyway?"

"I've asked her to come in with the cake once everyone was here." Sora whispered to Natsu. "I got Wendy to let her know to come now."

Wendy then came in, opening the doors as Erza walked with the cake.

"Whoa! Look at the size of that cake! It must be six layers high!" Lisanna exclaimed.

Melody's eyes began to sparkle once more as she couldn't help but drool over seeing the enormous chocolate cake.

"I'm so ready to devour that cake!" Melody happily exclaimed.

"This took me most of the day but I assure you Melody that this cake will be the--"

Erza was suddenly cut-off as she tripped on a loose floorboard and the cake came flying towards the table.

"Hit the deck!" Gray shouted as everyone lowered their heads.

Sora saw the cake coming right at Melody and trying to grab it but it was too late, the cake splattered right on Melody's face. Everyone gasped as cake started to trickle down Melody's face.

"The-the cake! Forgive me Mel-chan! I toiled over making the cake only to have it end up on your face." Erza apologized with great shame.

Faint laughter could be heard as Melody's laugh became louder and echoed throughout the guild.

"Are you kidding? This is the best birthday ever!" Melody reassured her as she started to lick the cake off her face. "Yum!"

"Hey, looks like some of the cake happened to land on my plate too! I think we can still salvage it and let everyone enjoy a piece!" Sora spoke up.

"Yeah!" The guild cheered.

The party didn't end in a total disaster as everyone continued to celebrate, right to when Melody had her first drink. And, surprisingly, got plastered along with Cana and the two ended up singing and dancing for the entire guild.


"This as been without a doubt, one of the best birthdays I've ever had, probably in a long time. I'm glad to be a part of this great big family of Fairy Tail. I want to continue to enjoy spending moments like this with them forever!"
